Baby Shower Invitations
By Javier Hernandez | Published  04/5/2009

So, you're in charge of hosting a baby shower? Among the many decisions that need to be made are what type of invitations are going to be sent out to make the very important announcement that a new baby is on the way!

A new baby is a time to celebrate and I'm sure you want the invitations to be special. Exactly how special depends on a number of things and these dictate which type you choose.

Store Bought Invitations

If you are planning a baby shower with a traditional theme, you can easily pick up some really cute invitations at your local discount store. The plus is that these are very inexpensive, and are easy to fill out if you're pressed for time. You don't have to spend a lot of money or try to design your own invitations online.

Online Invitation Downloads

Online invitations can be very affordable and you can come up with some very unique designs. Many people don't give this option a try because they can't think of what to put on the invitation. If you can't figure out how to word an invitation, just look up other baby shower invitations on the internet and use some or all of their wording changing only what you want to customize.

Custom Printed Invitations

If your budget can handle it and you want to have formal invitations printed that will be a special keepsake, go to your local printer. You will have a wide choice of fancy fonts, paper, and custom printing. Of course, these aren't the type of invitations you send out for a coed backyard barbeque shower, but if elegance is in the plan, this is the way to go.

Ultimate Baby Shower Invitations

Yes, hand calligraphy. This isn't that common, but for those of you who want a distinguished baby shower; this is the way to go. You can search online or look in your local yellow pages to find calligraphers. All you will need to do is give them the date, time, location, and the name of the mom-to-be. They will take care of the rest, including addressing and sending them out. If you have the funds, this couldn't be easier!

Handmade Invitations

If you happen to be a hostess with the time and skill, you can make some beautiful baby shower invitations. Those of you who love to scrapbook have a knack for this and you can find hundreds of ideas online.

These definitely aren't as expensive as the custom printed or calligraphy invitations, but can be just as beautiful and will be more special and appreciated by the mom-to-be.

Take into consideration your time, your budget, and the wishes of the mom-to-be and get started planning those very special baby shower invitations.
