Tip #1 - Make an Appointment With a Dermatologist

First, find a good dermatologist - Cystic acne can cause permanent scaring. A good dermatologist will prescribe an antibiotic for your condition to prevent breakouts that can cause the scarring. The most common treatment is using the antibiotic Accutane or isotretinoin. About 90% of all cystic acne patients have success with this treatment.

You do have to be careful though. Accutane has some serious side affects that you need to talk to your dermatologist about.

Tip #2 - Cleanliness

Tip #3 - Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid

Apply Benzoyl Peroxide five minutes after you have washed your face if you have chosen not to use a strong prescription like Accutane. Find a product that has at least 2.5% concentration for the best results. You can also try using a product that has salicylic acid in it. Look for a product that contains at least 2% and apply it after washing your face.

Tip #5 - Corticosteroid

Another option when treating cystic acne is corticosteroid injections. It has been found that by injecting corticosteroid directly into the cysts, that it reduces the acne within a few days. This treatment also prevents scarring as it reduces the possibility of bursting of a cyst and dries it totally. It may be necessary for your doctor to cut open the acne and drain it.
