How to clean eye glasses: How to look after your spectacles?
Glasses will obviously look better and give longer service if you take care of them. Observe the following rules.
(a) When you put them on or take them off hold them by the temples with both hands. Try not to exert a pull on the sides with one hand while putting them on for it tends to distort the glasses.
(b) Never leave the glasses with the lens face downwards as it tends to scratch the lenses. Some high powered lenses like cataract glasses have to he always folded when removed or they overbalance and land upon the lenses.
(c) Make sure the frames are properly adjusted and the earpieces do not slip. Most reputed opticians are happy to adjust them regularly free of charge.
(d) How to clean eye glasses: Dirt can easily collect around the rim of the glasses. Use an old toothbrush and tap water with soap. More often than not irritable eyes, etc. are due to the contact of the eyes with old collected dirt at the lens edge. Washing does no harm to the glasses or plastic frames or even metal frames. As a matter of fact, sweat is corrosive and a daily washing of glasses keeps them in a better condition. After washing them dry them with a soft cloth.
(e) Do not use lens-cleaning paper. Continuous use spoils the glasses. Also be wary of silicone and other chemical cleaners. Too often eyes have been reddened and irritated by constant exposure to fumes from these chemicals. Soap and water is best and safest.
