Being a teenager is hard sometimes. Being a plus size teenager is harder. If you happen to be one of the many plus size teenage girls, you need to stop and think for a moment.
Whether you realize it or not, all teenage girls are unhappy about their body in some way. You are not the only one. What you have to decide is are you going to let a poor body image stop you from having a great time or are you going embrace the fact that you are a plus size teen and go with it?
I suggest the second choice. Have a good time. Instead of moping around about not having the perfect body (whatever the media decides that is this week), make a conscious decision to accept yourself the way you are.
Sit down by yourself or with a trusted friend, and make a list of your good points. It can be anything that is good:
Your hair
Your teeth
Your smile
Your eyes
Your chest
Your waist
Your legs
Your feet
Now that you know your strong points, concentrate on drawing attention to them and away from what you feel are your not-so-good points.
Choose colors that are flattering to your skin tone. Do not get stuck in the "all black" rut. You know, "black is slimming" so you buy everything in black. Black makes teenage girls look old. Choose some of the latest colors that flatter your hair, eye, and skin color and be bright and cheerful.
Choose some basics that fit well in neutral colors. Buy several pants and skirts in beige, taupe, off-white and gray. These colors will mix and match with just about everything. Once you have these basic pieces that flatter you, you can add those great tops in all the pretty colors to go with them.
If you have trouble finding a good-fitting pair of jeans, give the men’s department a try. Men’s jeans are cut for a straighter fit so the waist isn’t too tight when you get the hips to fit. Top these off with a cute top.
When choosing clothes, don’t forget the shoes. Shoes can be a great accessory that will draw attention to a shapely pair of legs making them look long and slender. If you have slim ankles, choose a shoe with an ankle strap.
It’s all about accentuating your strong points and drawing attention away from your weaker areas. As long as you remember this, you’ll look great.
