Advantages of Wearing Contact Lenses
By Bianca Cohen | Low Vision | Unrated

Can I see more with contacts?

Yes, the visual field or the horizon of view is almost twice that of spectacles because of increased side vision, which makes activities like car driving safer.

Do I get better quality of vision with contacts?

Yes, spectacles tend to change the apparent size of an object. A myopic eye sees objects smaller and a hypermetropic eye sees them larger than they actually are, with spectacles. With contacts the object size is normal.

Again, in high minus or plus lenses, due to an inherent defect from which all spectacle glasses suffer, straight lines are seen curved. Contacts restore exact vision. They give a more normal type of vision. Hence most architects and interior decorators prefer contact lenses.

Is it true that the power of my eye will not increase if I go in for contacts?

Yes, in a high percentage of cases, the power is stabilised and this is now an accepted fact in all countries. Medically speaking, if the spectacle power of a person goes on increasing, contact lenses are essential.

Does the clarity of vision increase with contact lenses?

Yes, for unlike spectacles, contacts are optically correctly centred at all times as they move with the eye.

Do contact lenses have any psychological benefits?

The psychological benefits are vast. The person develops confidence and poise and is socially better-adjusted, besides looking more attractive.

Can athletes use contact lenses?

Certainly. The ideal lens for sports is a soft lens which cannot be displaced or fall out of the eye; and is absolutely safe. Hard lenses can be used, but have to be specially fitted.

For what professions are contact lenses very essential?

Modelling, T.V. and cinema acting and dancing. It is estimated that two-thirds of all fashion models and stars today wear contact lenses. Photographers find it far easier to focus their cameras and select better composition of light and shade with contacts.
