Advantages of Soft Lenses
By Bianca Cohen | Low Vision | Unrated

The soft lens is a great improvement on the hard contact lens. It is softer, more comfortable and provides excellent vision and is more normal; for, after all, two soft entities, the eye and the lens are mated together in a happy marriage.

If a wearer is comfortable with hard lenses what does she gain with soft lenses?

She gains comfort. The degree of comfort with soft lenses is astonishing. It really needs a hard lens wearer to appreciate the great difference. More often than not, a new soft lens wearer is surprised that she does not feel the lens placed on her eye.

Can dust get beneath a soft lens?

No. There is complete freedom from dust entering the eye. It is extremely annoying to attend an important function or meet someone important and suddenly find tears running down the eye as dust has entered behind the hard lens. This risk is not there with a soft lens for no dust can enter the eye once the lenses are worn.

Is there any restriction on the number of hours soft lenses can be worn?

The lenses can be worn the full day depending on your tolerance. Usually 12-14 hours is taken as average wear.

Can soft lenses fall or slip from the eye?

Once worn a soft lens cannot fall off. A soft lens can also never slip in the eye. It is self-centring and, even if displaced purposely with a finger, will recentre automatically with a single blink.
