Epilepsy Symptoms

Epilepsy is a cerebral nerve disease characterized by internal sensations leading to loss of consciousness as well as convulsions and muscular movements. The attacks are caused by electric disorders in the nervous cells in different sections of the brain.

The main causes of epilepsy are birth trauma, infections of the brain, accidents, ingestion of toxins, inherited disorders, hypoglycemia, and bad nutrition. There are treatments for certain forms of epilepsy while other forms are untreatable.

To reduce the attacks, avoid fatigue, over eating or drinking, and emotional stress. Add a proper diet to help reduce the chances of an attack.

Ginkgo Bilob is a plant used in medication for the treatment of epilepsy preventing the attacks. The medication improves the blood flow, is high in nutrients, and increases the oxygen levels in the blood. The medication allows the nerves near the affected areas to recover from the electric impulses reducing the seizures.

Adding a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals including Vitamin A, B, C, D, and E will help to combat possible seizures. Adding minerals to the diet Omega 3, proteins, Magnesium, Potassium, and calcium also help to improve the conditions of the body to fight epilepsy. Remove the fats and sodium from the diet and avoid caffeine-based drinks. Add foods high in fiber and whole grains.

The diet does help to prevent epilepsy attacks and reduce the time of recovery from attacks. Maintaining a healthy diet as well as exercise promotes a healthier immune system aiding to the complications of epilepsy.

A group from John Medical Center in the United States has shown a diet high in fats has benefits for children suffering epilepsy. For children under the age of 14 a special diet called Ketogenic Diet has improved the negative attacks and seizures while traditional treatments have failed. The children suffered less amounts of seizures when they were on the diet for at least two years. The majority of the patients improved with the diets with over 25% had complete recovery.

Since the majority of epileptic people do not know when they are going to have an attack some have taken measures to get a seizure dog. The dogs sense the seizures before they occur and the dog alerts the person. The person then is able to get to a safe place where they can lay down without hurting themselves by possible falls.

The practice of having a seizure dog has increased over the years. The fact it is a natural ability of the dog to sense the seizures and is not a trained practice complicates the demand for the dogs since the dogs have proven to be a critical importance for the epileptic patient. Finding a dog that signals the attracts and seizures lessens the risks of personal harm.
