Bible crafts are a great way to entertain children while teaching about the Bible. They will learn as they create the different crafts. By using Biblical stories to create an art project they child are gaining knowledge about the Bible and about how to use different art supplies and materials in a productive manner.
Bible crafts are easy and inexpensive ways for children to be exposed to art. The materials for the crafts include colored construction paper, paints, colored pencils, paper plates, scissors, and glue. There are other materials such as tin cans, and beads.
One Bible craft is creating a large mural the children can color. Use a large white paper tablecloth. Draw characters from the Bible such as Noah’s Ark and the animals. To draw the animals use a template of different animals made by cutting the animals into several pieces of heavy card stock. Have an adult trace the outlines of the animals onto the paper tablecloth then allow the children to color or paint the animals and other figures on the tablecloth. While Noah’s Ark is a great theme, there is also Easter scenes, the birth of Baby Jesus, and the Last Supper. All are wonderful themes to use for an art project while teaching children about the Bible.
Another craft to do is to do beadwork. The children can make crosses or a bracelet with the popular "WWJD" initials in the middle of colorful beads. There are also plaques made out of plaster of Paris and tin pie pans. Press the little hands into the plaster mixture while telling the children about the act of creation. Other stories can be used in the same manner to bring the Bible into all crafts.
A fun craft for all ages is the project using yarn, old clean socks, and buttons. Create puppets for the children to use in a play telling a story. Let the children decorate the sock puppets with the clothing of the era, which include the long flowing robes. They will have a lot of fun doing this.
For the older children, create a stain glass project and incorporate designs of the cross, the sun shining through clouds, and the star of Bethlehem shining brightly onto the manger. This is a more complex craft yet it is worth the time to create the breath taking artwork for the older children.
Other craft ideas are available at the hobby store and on the internet. The internet has several websites dedicated to Bible art for children. Some have different packages available at discount rates for the larger ordered online. Some companies will send catalogs when requested. Take the time to find the different projects using the Bible.
