You bought your home with the intentions of peace and quiet. You move in only discover the neighbors are not exactly what you expected. They are loud and keep you up during the evenings when you want to have the quiet relaxing night. You do not have to get upset by the noise; you can take measures to soundproof your home to remove the outside noises.
You can remove the sounds from the different areas of you home so you can have the desired levels of peace. Soundproofing your den so you can work at home without losing your concentration is one of the main reasons you may decide to use soundproofing. It is not an expensive alternative to the noise.
To soundproof the room, you will need to use material that will stop the vibrations and sounds from entering the room. The material can be purchases at the home improvement store such as homostote panels under drywall to maximize the soundproofing of the room. The options of using foam panels also will provide the desired soundproofing effects for the room.
Other methods include using a solid door for the entrance of the room and shutting the door from the outside noises. Adding soundproof flooring add the effects of removing the bothersome noises. Such materials are also available at the home improvement stores. The flooring is called "quietfloor" and works wonders for removing the outside noises.
Some use thicker windows with storm window coverings as well as blinds or shutters. The soundproofing qualities of the window coverings remove the noise levels as well as provide additional security for the home.
One method that is inexpensive is adding an extra layer of insulation in the walls, floors, and ceiling of the room. Insulation is a natural sound barrier for homes that also provides the energy efficient qualities to add to the savings on the utility bills.
For the do-it-yourselfer homeowner with a limited budget and does not mind the unattractive appearance, using the eggshell cartons will provide the soundproofing for a room until you can either purchase other materials or get used to the appearance of the eggshell cartons being on the walls and ceiling areas. This is one inexpensive method used for the basement ceilings when the removal of the upstairs noises is very important for levels of concentration or added privacy.
Sound rooms at recording studios uses this inexpensive method of soundproofing their rooms since the levels of noise reduction are quite high while not costing a great deal of money. To make the cartons more attractive, paint the cartons creating a new design to the walls without having to look at the unflattering cartons. It may sound strange but kids love this effect for their rooms as well.

The author, Jonathan Pitts, does not know a thing about soundproofing and his suggestion of using egg cartons is completely ridiculous as that technique is commonly joked about since IT DOESN'T WORK. Adding insulation to your walls is not inexpensive and only doing this is not effective soundproofing. This is one of the most misleading and poorly researched articles I have ever read on the subject and I would suggest removing it immediately from your website.
