Decorative Pens and Pencils
By Jonathan Pitts | Home | Unrated

This project is a fun way for the entire family to turn your ordinary looking pens and pencils into beautifully decorated works of art. You can create some for your own family use and also create some to give as gifts. Personally, I think this project would be the perfect gift for your child to give to their teacher for a birthday or Christmas.

To complete this project you will need one package each of pens and pencils, double sided sticky tape, and different colored yarn or strands of decorative beads. Of course, you are also going to need a clean work space to complete this project. You will want to tightly wrap the pens and pencils with the double sided sticky tape from end to end. After making sure that you have wrapped them tightly and entirely, you can then begin to decorate with the yarn or beads.

When using the yarn, begin with one color and wrap it tightly around the pen or pencil three or four times making sure to cover up any exposed area of the sticky tape. After using one color of yarn and wrapping three or four times, switch to a different color of yarn and repeat the process, again making sure to cover any exposed area of the sticky tape. Continue this process until the entire pen or pencil is covered and there is no area of sticky tape left exposed.

If you choose to decorate the pens and pencils with decorative beads, you will want to complete the process in the same manner as you would if you were using yarn. Tightly wrap a strand of decorative beads around the pen or pencil three or four times making sure to cover up any exposed area of the sticky tape. If decorating the pens or pencils with strands of decorative beads, you might want to consider using the entire strand on the same pen or pencil rather than a variety of beads.

Different colored yarn and decorative strands of beads are not the only things that can be used to wrap your pens and pencils. You could choose to use small plastic or fabric flowers or even different colored crafting feathers if you prefer one of those over the yarn or beads. Whichever decoration you choose to use, you will be the envy of all of your friends by creating a unique and colorful twist to ordinary pens and pencils.

To give these newly decorated pens and pencils as a gift, you could purchase a decorative pen and pencil holder to place them in. This is an easy project to do, very enjoyable, and whoever you give the finished project to will be thrilled to receive your gift.
