An Internet hard drive is storage space on a server that is accessible from the Internet. In most cases, an Internet hard drive is accessed by a user who subscribes to a storage service and rents a block of space from said server for specific period of time. Currently there are also many free options for Internet hard drives as demand has increased and companies have been able to make it profitable through the sale of ads space.
Internet hard drives are a great alternative to standard hardware solutions such as hard drives, CDs and DVDs and even USB or flash drives. As most computers these days now have access to the Internet there are a number of advantages to be gained from the use of an Internet hard drive over a traditional hardware storage method. Probably the biggest advantage is portability. The use of an Internet hard drive you're able to access any file that you desire from any computer with Internet access in the world. Although traditional hardware solutions exist for this they often become lost or damaged when being taken around to multiple computers at multiple locations. This brings up the second largest advantage that Internet hard drives provide as opposed to more traditional media storage devices which is backup. Everyone knows that any sort of hard drive or computer may become damaged, lost or stolen at some point in time especially when being taken from one location to another frequently. Internet hard drives negate not only this risk to an expensive piece of hardware but also eliminate the risk of losing whatever data you are trying to transport in the first place. They also provide a great opportunity to backup files from your desktop or laptop computer just in case something bad would happen. Having an important file in more than one place makes it nearly impossible to lose your valuable information.
Internet hard drives are also a great way to stay in touch with other people across vast distances. With an Internet hard drive it is almost as if people in different parts of the world are sharing the very same computer with one another. Imagine working on a project with a colleague from Russia and instead of having to e-mail attachments back and forth to one another you both have real-time access to the exact same files at any time that you desire.
Internet hard drives or perhaps the future form of content storage, if you do not yet use an Internet hard drive now is the time to jump on the bandwagon and get started.
