Dating is a fun experience that can make you feel like something of a Cassanova/James Bond if you get it right. And who knows, it could lead to something more… If you get it wrong however, it can be an awkward and unpleasant experience for both parties that you could have to endure for an entire evening. For this reason, an element of planning is crucial if you want the date to go smoothly and if you’re serious about the girl.
Fortunately, you’re starting from a strong position and most girls will be pleased to be going on a date in the first place. Many girls I’ve known have met their guys in clubs and gone straight home with them or ended up falling into relationships with their friends, meaning a lot of them have never been on a ‘proper’ date. If you’re taking them somewhere nice it tells them that you’re keen on them, that you can provide, that you’re a gentleman and that you’re romantic, and is also a good time for you to demonstrate your best assets.
Most dates tend to take place either at the cinema or restaurant. If you do go to the cinema then be sure to go for something to eat after or before as you won’t have any time to interact otherwise (if you go afterwards then the film will provide a good conversation point).
It can be fun however to try and get a bit creative and other fun dates could be at the beach, shopping, mini golf, ice skating, bowling or going for a walk or picnic. You could even put a unique spin on a more standard date by going for sushi or watching a film in 3D. If this is a first date then doing something exciting that’ll captivate her will enhance your chances of her saying yes as well as giving you something fun to talk about. Whatever you do though, make sure the girl will like it by running it past her first – if she has a crippling fear of ice skating it might not make the best date. That said however, don’t constantly defer to opinions and try to show a decisiveness and knowledge of the area and of women in general, you don’t want to come across as overly needy or a complete noob. It’s a tricky line to walk but I have faith that you can do it.
If you’re going for the classic dinner date there are many other rules to observe. First of all you should take her to eat something that isn’t too messy – having bolognaise down your top isn’t attractive and I highly doubt she’ll want it down her sexy dress either. Infact I’ve been told that girls hate eating in front of us so make sure you don’t finish to quickly and make her feel uncomfortable. Make sure your manners are intact too and keep your elbows off the table. It’s also nice to pull out her chair for her and hold open doors, but an additional tip you might not have known is that you should sit so that she is against the wall where possible. The reason for this custom is that it means you’re only looking at her and not checking out the hot waitress in the short skit. If you know your wines this is another chance to impress is with the wine and even if you only learn the name of one red and one white you should try and suggest one to suggest a broader knowledge. And remember – white for chicken, fish or white meat and red for red meat.
And whatever you opted to do for your date make sure you pick up the tab when it comes around. Just because women are so hung up on equality on these days doesn’t mean they like you to be stingy…
