Most women learned how to apply their makeup when they were young. The way that you learned to apply your makeup was more than likely a universal way and not one in which your own individual facial features where taken into consideration. As you grow older it is important that you know how to alter the way in which you apply your makeup so that it accentuates your own best features and helps to conceal your own problem areas. The more that you apply your makeup according to your own features, the better that you will look.
There are things to take into consideration when you apply your makeup. You will generally want to apply your blush the way that you were probably taught, on the apples of your cheeks. However, if you have a round face then this rule changes and you will actually want to apply your blush further up and more toward your temples. Also, if you have a bit of a double chin then you can add a bit of blush under your chin and it will help to make your double chin less noticeable.
There are certain things that you will want to keep in mind when you are applying your eye makeup. If you think that your eyes sit too close together, then you will want to apply your eyeliner in a way which will help you correct that problem. You want to start applying your eyeliner at the middle of your eyelids and work out to the outer corners of your eyes. Don't apply the eyeliner in the inner corners of your eyes. This will help your eyes to look further apart. If you feel that your eyes are too far apart, then you will do the opposite and apply the eyeliner from the middle of your eyes to the inner corners. This will help pull them closer together.
If you have thin lips then you will want to make sure that you don't own or use any dark colored lipsticks or lip glosses. Dark colors will always make your lips appear thinner than they are. You will want to use a lip pencil and outline your lips in a shade that matches the lipstick or gloss that you will be wearing. Afterwards you will want to apply a small amount of gloss that is one shade lighter than what you are wearing to just the centers of your lips, this will create a fuller look.
