Proper ventilation is the major requisite for any construction. Poor ventilation results in severe health problems mostly allergies. House that is ventilated appropriately will have an atmosphere balanced with required amounts of moisture and heat. A poorly ventilated house results in build-up of moisture in the house resulting in the formation of small wet patches on the roof. The situation is still worse in winter season, during which the ice settles down on the roof. It is therefore essential to take necessary steps during the initial construction stage to provide free ventilation to the house. It is wise to think about ventilation in the initial planning and construction stage.
Generally, hot air travels upwards, and reaches the attic and remains there until cleared. Thus, if any ventilation facilities are provided at the top of the attic, the hot air will escape out and the room will start to cool. Now that you have made options for the escape of hot air, you should provide an inlet for fresh air to maintain the balance. Have another set of ventilators at the bottom of the room for the entry of fresh air.
Various types of vents are used for roof top include the ridge vents, static roof vents, gable end vents or wind-driven turbines. The installation of roof top vents helps for free flow of air. Good ventilation eliminates the need for a ventilator which saves your power bill. But you may have to spend money to reduce the moisture content and to cool the attic.
Another option to improve the air flow in to the room is the use of whole-room fans. All you need to do is to open the windows and start the fan. This will drive all the hot air upwards that escapes through the attic vents. As the windows are kept open, cold air from outside replaces the hot air. This will not only provide appropriate ventilation, but also reduces your energy bills thus, saving you a good amount.
Kitchen is the place where hot air from cooking gets accumulated very fast and increases the temperature throughout the house if you cook for a very long time. You can avoid this by installing an exhaust fan that not only drives off the hot air but also any odors. Make sure that the fan you install fits well for the size of the room.
If you use a great number of electronic equipment in your house, this will lead to the emission of gases like carbon monoxide that remains within the house if ventilation aspects are not taken care of. This is highly dangerous for life. If you are not sure if your equipment is eliminating greater amount of carbon monoxide then make use of detectors to identify the presence of the gas. Even if traces amounts are identified, take a necessary action.
By following the above said guidelines you will not only save on your energy bills but also your medical bills as fresh air helps to maintain a perfect health.
