Mostly people just start off with a pond or a fountain and with time they come with the best water gardens ever.
When planning the water garden the most vital thing which you have to decide is the location where you would like your water garden to be. There are two major things you got to make sure of being present, sunlight and drainage. There will be plants and fishes which are also found commonly in water gardens, sunlight plays the most important role in keeping both of them in good shape and with good drainage, it would be easier to change the water whenever it’s needed to be. Try to keep your water garden away from trees or bushes because of their shedding leaves. Water gardens do need good maintenance but if trees or bushes would be there, you might need to work a bit more hard.
Many people use aquatic plants in their ponds, depends on the mood. If you are going to use aquatic plants then make sure your half pond is uncovered otherwise you won’t be able to sight the fishes. Various plants give oxygen in the water; it would be better if you plant them along the boundary of the pond adding some flowered plants too. These highly increase the beauty of the pond giving it a fantastic look, and due to oxygen giving plants, fishes would live well.
In order to have your pond well oxygenated the most recommendable thing is to have a pond pump and filter. They also reduce the primary problems of having algae and insects in the pond. Make sure that you don’t give too much fertilizer to the plants or too much food to the fishes otherwise you will get algae in your pond. Water violets, water crowfoot, and water hyacinth are some of the good water plants you would like to add to your pond. They are good in reproducing though, so you might need to be regular at cleaning your pond.
How can we forget to add a fountain to the garden? So after you are all done with setting up the pond, go and get a fountain, which you think would suit the surrounding and the pond. It depends whether you want to set it up inside or outside of the pond. And don’t forget to add some good rockwork around, its always attractive and catches people’s eyes. You can also set up a nice waterfall, which plays a major role in enhancing the water garden; it could come and end up in the pool and please make sure it’s properly illuminated. Plus, do some moody lighting, which goes with the surrounding.
Planning water garden is not a difficult task; you just have to be a bit creative. Remember that not only water gardens, but also almost everything needs maintenance and care, so give it some good touch and attention and it is going to make you happy for years.
