Men have it easy when it comes to treating their girlfriends, wives and fiancées on their birthday. A box of chocolates, a hot bath, a bottle of wine, a piece of jewelry and a good film is usually what a woman will love, but to treat a man to his perfect birthday is often a different story. Of course we don't wish to stereotype genders, but here are our suggestions on how to treat your guy on his birthday...

Firstly, listen closely to what he says. Has he talked about past birthdays before and mentioned that he particularly liked something either you or someone else did? Maybe he has a fond memory of his favorite birthday as a child and you could recreate it for him. If you've got a big budget then think big too; is there somewhere he wants to visit? Would a weekend trip to his favorite city be a good idea?

If you and he have agreed that his birthday will be a small affair then this is where you need to use your knowledge of his likes and dislikes. Essentially, you can use the same ideas that you'd like for your own birthday, but apply them to him. For instance, if you would want to watch a romantic comedy then he might want to watch the latest thriller. If you love Chinese food, he might prefer a pizza. Speaking of food; one of the best things you can do is cook every meal of the day for him and make sure they're ones that he loves. If he's a huge fan of cooking himself then he'll love it if you join in and take a real interest in what he serves up.

You may also be in the situation where you haven't discussed his birthday at all. If he's not brought it up, not said what he plans to do or even expressed that he won't do anything special then you have the perfect opportunity to throw a surprise party. These work very well for the older man who, when asked 'what would you like for your birthday?' replies with 'well I've got everything I want, really'. Start organizing this by asking his friends for their opinion. Make sure you ask these friends individually, though. If they're all together they're more likely to suggest something silly and 'macho' that he won't actually enjoy. Leave it up to them to throw him a testosterone fueled night and you can organize one that he'll remember forever. Remember that this is his party and you should invite all his friends, even if you don't like or get on with some of them. Try to invite mutual friends for you to spend time with, so that he never feel separated from you during the party.

You can probably guess what our last suggestion is, and it's one that both of you will enjoy right at the end of his birthday night. Give him a treat, perhaps a sexy outfit, or introducing something you've never done before. Most importantly, he'll love it if you're strong and confident, showing him exactly what you want and that what you really want is him. Men and women alike love to go to bed on their birthday knowing that the person they love, loves them right back.
