By Jonathan Pitts | Pet Related | Unrated

If your dog is having a very bad attitude, it does not only trouble you but also others. It is essential to take immediate measures to correct behavioral problems in dogs. The following is a discussion about problem of aggression and measures to overcome it.

Problems of aggression: Aggression develops in dogs at around 2 years of age and very rarely in puppies of four to five months. It begins in dogs as a result of reluctance to do what their masters order them to do. Not all dogs are prone to this problem. Even though some dog breeds doesn’t like to obey strict commands. Aggressive dogs growl badly. Some dog breeds are highly possessive in nature and do not like to share their toys, food or sleeping area with other pets. If they feel insecure they start barking. To cure behavioral problems, help of a veterinarian has to be taken. In cases where control cannot be attained very easily, medications are recommended by doctor.

Suggestions on how to overcome the problem of aggression:

• First thing to be done to overcome the health problems in pets is just very similar to the case of humans. Get an appointment with the doctor. Doctor will find out if there are any health problems like thyroid, dental diseases, arthritis and the like that are leading to aggressive behavior of your dogs. If this is the case, curing internal disorders will relieve the symptoms of violent nature.

• Another factor to be considered is if you observe any abnormal behavior in your dog, try to gain control over it in the early days. For example, if it barks on those who pass by while it is having food, do not neglect it. It may get worse and may even start to bite.

• Studies show that dogs which do not have enough exercise are more prone to behavioral problems. Fact is that some of the dog breeds should be kept engaged all the time. It is suggested that about an hour of brisk walking is required. You can do it easily if you take your dog along with you for a morning jogging or allow it to play games like Frisbee along with kids. Another task is you can just play balls and ask the dog to get them when they are gone long distance. You can even take your dog to dog parks. If you are starting the exercise regime freshly for your dog it is essential to consult a veterinarian before you give it a start. The amount of exercise time has to be increased gradually.

• In addition to teaching your dog, it is essential that you do not do anything that annoys your dog. Like if the dog is highly possessive removing its plate in front of it makes it to bark. In such cases try to divert the attention. If it has passed that stage and has started to bite then it is essential to use a basket muzzle for your dog.

• Use a long leash to tie the dog. This will help the dog move whenever it desires. Use of very short leash may irritate the dog due to its inability to move freely.
