How to Gain Control and Teach Your Dog a Good Behavior
By Jonathan Pitts | Pet Related | Unrated

Dogs face behavior problems that need attention right at the budding stage. The best part is you should make appropriate arrangements well ahead to avoid the development of behavior problems. Following are some of the problems you see in dogs and possible remedies to overcome them.

Destructive behavior: Destructive qualities like scratching furniture and chewing carpets pose great problem to dog owners. It develops as a result of leaving the dog alone at home for a very long period. You can compensate it by providing toys to play, bring another pet as its companion, or you can give some chewable toys. If the dog is punished by putting in a dark room or any sort of punishment for chewing or scratching furniture it develops destructive behavior. So, never punish the dog, try to teach it with patience.

Barking: Dogs bark against anything new or suspicious. However, some dogs bark extensively. If your dog is doing so, it might be doing due to several reasons like being bored, trying to grab your attention, or out of loneliness. Major requisite factor to gain control over barking is being patient. Never spank the dog for barking it will worsen the situation. If your dog is barking, do not encourage it, if you do so it will continue the act considering that there is something alarming. If the dog is barking as it is bored try to engage it by providing it with toys, training it how to play simple games like catching a Frisbee or bringing another pet. If the situation is worse consider taking the help of veterinarian.

Fur pulling: Some of the dogs often pullout their fur very badly. It could be either due to health problem or a behavior problem. The most common cause is due to the presence of fleas. If this is the case, you can get rid of it by maintaining perfect hygiene like thorough cleaning of the dog bedding and eating bowls. If the dogs are bored they try to pull their fur. You can overcome that by providing enough of exercise.

Intention to fight: It is quiet common to see small pups fighting for fun. It should not be encouraged as it develops into a habit which is very dangerous and may even lead to death of your dog. However, some breeds do not involve in serious fights, they just play either with their friends or siblings. In such cases, care should be taken if the dog is in fight with other more furious breeds that lose temper very easily and bite very hard. It is advised to not encourage the habit of fighting or biting as they may even bite humans which is risky.

Wandering: If the dogs are left to wander alone, they develop the instinct to run away either in search of a friend or search of happiness if your dog is very much bored in its current location. You can avoid this by taking your dog for a walk regularly. This will give a chance for the dog to meet other dogs, it would be a sort of exercise which makes it tired and will not feel bored after returning home. Added advantage is that you can improve your health and be in contact with other people in the community.
