By Mark Perry | Back Spine | Rating:

Back pain is the common complaint that we hear now-a-days. The main reason for this is the sedentary life style demanding great number of hours of sitting at the office, not allotting enough time for regular physical workouts and imbalanced diets that do not strengthen the body enough to meet the daily requirements. Pregnancy is another cause for back pain. However, pregnant women should use a different set of postures. Health risks that pose the back pain problem include damaged discs, cysts, tumors or infections.

This article focuses on the importance of yoga in relieving back pain. You can obtain relief from back pain by regular practice of yoga without the need of any medications. It is suggested to practice yoga for at least ten minutes every day. The beauty of yoga is that it cures even the pains not answered by most of the allopathic medicines.

Here is the list of yoga postures that answer the back pain problem. These poses concentrate on improving the flexibility of the spinal cord, and strengthening of the spinal cord muscles thereby relieving back pain.

Cobra pose: This pose gives relief from back pain caused by damaged discs. This pose has to be practiced appropriately to avoid further worsening of the pain.

Hatha Yoga: This is another gentle posture that provides relief from back pain.

Corpse pose: This pose offers relaxation from all your stress. It is very simple and can be done by anyone. But to have a good effect, it is essential to concentrate on each and every organ of your body from toes to head. Take deep breaths and relax well. Do this for ten to fifteen minutes.

Cat stretch: An excellent posture to relieve back pain. You will have to sit on your knees and bend forwards resting on your palms. Inhale and exhale while you are in this position. Stretch your back as much as possible to obtain relief from back pain.

Bridge pose: Lie flat on the floor with your feet on the floor. Now raise your pelvis as much as you can and bring your heels close to your back end. Bring your fingers close to the feet. Try to expand your abdomen and chest as you inhale and exhale.

Downward facing dog: This is another interesting and simple posture to relieve back pain. This basic posture is similar to that of the cat stretch but in this case you will stretch your legs as much as possible. It is recommended to be in the same pose until you take five breaths.

It is not just the above poses, it is essential to practice meditation for certain amount of time to cultivate good co-ordination between muscles and the flexibility of your body. Controlled breathing practiced during all the postures provides relief from stress.

Whatever the exercises you choose from the above category, you have to take it very slowly. Increase the level of complexity gradually. You will definitely obtain relief from your soaring back within a very short period by regular practice of yoga.
