Dog obedience training should start off as soon as you bring your pet at home. The dogs should adapt well to your lifestyle and family members and be able to comprehend your commands easily to know what you are conveying. It may be a challenge initially when you try and understand your dog and figure out ways to communicate effectively. While some of the dogs get trained quickly, others may take some time.
Take time to bond with your dog initially. Understand the behaviour of the dog and give obedience training accordingly. This would give a strong foundation for solving the most disturbing behavioural problems for the dog.
Once you train your dog to obey your commands, you bond even better as you open out a line for communicating effectively. You should be able to train your dog to understand simple commands like "sit, "stand", "come", "stay" and down". The dog should be trained to comply with the commands given by its owner.
Dog obedience training makes the dog well behaved and well adjusted and soon becomes a part of your family. He starts staying with you at ease even in the presence of others. In case the obedience training is not proper, it may be a nuisance for your visitors to enter your home. The pet also becomes unsafe for your children, neighbours or even strangers going on the streets as they may go and really scare them and pose a threat to the street dogs.
Dogs generally follow whom they consider "a leader". Hence, your main aim after bringing your pet home is to make him consider you as his leader. Shower your pet with a lot of care and affection and you may be surprised at how well your dog would reciprocate the same to you. Make sure that he does not take too much advantage of you and respect your status as a leader and build the relationship further.
A well trained dog would not be confused when it comes to understanding his master. The atmosphere may become tension filled if he starts barking or biting the inmates of the home. He may become quite dominating which is quite undesirable for him as a pet.
Obedience training makes you understand your dog as a pet and helps you to be aware of what he may do in a given situation. In addition, the dog gains a lot of confidence and mingles easily with all the family members. He leads a happier life at your home as he is able to get adjusted to the environment.
Ensure that your beloved pet understands the difference between positive and negative reinforcement signals from you. You may have to repeat some of the commands several times a day unless he is able to understand what he is supposed to do. Do not overdose your dog with rigorous training on a daily basis. A few minutes a day may be sufficient for him.
Dogs are adorable pets and can entertain your child and play with him very well. They are known for their loyalty to their masters. Enjoy training your dog and make him a part of your family soon.
