Home Remedies for Cracked Lips

Dry, cracked and chapped lips are painful and can make your face look ugly, especially if the damage. The lips cannot tolerate extreme climatic conditions like dryness, wind, heat or cold and can become dry or cracked. Cracks can also be caused due to certain drugs, overuse of cosmetic products, allergies, infections, dehydration, soaps and chemicals.

Cracks can cause bleeding, loss of moisture, peeling of outer layer of skin, tenderness, extreme redness, pain, sensitivity, rough texture of skin and various other discomforts that make you tend to lick your lips frequently.

The following are some very simple tips to be followed at home to treat the cracked lips in a natural way.

• Drink plenty of water regularly to keep the lips moist and hydrated.

• Apply petroleum jelly or lip balm every night before going to bed to moisturize your lips and make it look smooth.

• Some lip balms come with sun screen, moisturizing and pain killing properties. You can apply these special balms to treat lip cracks.

• Apply a light coat of moisturizer based lipsticks so that you would allow your lips to breathe.

• Use Chap Stick or moisturizer to wet your lips and avoid licking frequently with your tongue.

• Herbal lips guards also treat your lips to heal the cracks.

• Apply butter or ghee to heal the cracks and treating the dryness.

• Soak raw rose petals in fresh raw milk for a few hours. Make it into a paste and apply on your lips to improve the pinkness and heal the cracks.

• Remove dead skin by applying fresh milk cream for smooth lips every night.

• Cure your dry lips by massaging a slice of cucumber on your lips.

• Apply neem juice made from fresh neem leaves to heal chapped and cracked lips.

• Aloe Vera gel can be applied on the lips to heal dryness.

• Increase the consumption of vitamin A rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, legumes, tomatoes, nutritional yeast, carrots and whole grains.

• Add few honey drops to a teaspoon of glycerine and apply the paste on your lips before going to bed. Leave it overnight and you would find that your lips become more smooth and soft.

• Apply castor oil to remove dryness of lips.

• Take one teaspoon of glycerine and crush some rose petals in it to retain moisture and gain lost colour.

• Avoid smoking to remove the dark colour, sores and cracks.

• You may take some vitamin B supplements to cure the cracks.

• Drink the liquid mixture made from one tbsp. each of carrot juice, spinach juice, water cress, nutritional yeast added to a glass of tomato juice along with 2 tbsp. of wheat germ oil. This is a great remedy for treating dryness.

• Apply olive oil instead of Vaseline. This is a good moisturizing agent to prevent dryness.

• Table salt can be applied on lips to peel the outer dry skin. Apply some olive oil to again moisten your lips.

• Mix 1tsp. each of olive oil, sugar, Vaseline and butter and apply on the lips.
