How to Eliminate Dog Odors
By Jonathan Pitts | Pet Related | Unrated

Do you have dogs in your house? Have you had instances where people came to your house and remarked about the strange smell in your house? This is commonly known as dog odor and it is quite common for those who do not own pets to notice this odor. Dog owners typically get used to the smell of dogs in the house and it is only the guests who come to the house who notice it. The problem gets worse if you are renting the house with dog odors or trying to sell the same. Unless you have completely changed the carpet and the accessories, the smell does not go away. So, there are some tips that you need to follow when trying to eliminate dog odors naturally.

If the cause of the dog odor is because of the urine, locate the exact spot where the dog has urinated and then remove the stains from there. You can use a solution made of peroxide and other natural ingredients and mix with lavender to get a good smelling natural solvent. Once you have this with you, locate the stain and apply the solution to it so that the stain is removed along with the odor. Of course, you need to wait for some time before the solution does its work. Once the stain is removed, the odor goes off naturally as well. Another way is to sprinkle baking soda on your carpet and leave it overnight and then vacuum clean the carpet. This remedy has been found to be effective when it comes to dealing with dog odors.

For effective results, do not try to clean the entire house at one stretch. Instead, try it out on a small spot that can be tested whether your remedy is effective or not. Once you have satisfied yourself about the effectiveness of the treatment, you can then apply it to the entire house or the spots that have the pungent odor depending on the kind of stains that your dog has made. You should not use a cleaner made of ammonia as it is a component of the dog urine, and your dog may be confused by the smell of ammonia. You can also use baking soda to remove the odor and the stains caused by the dogs. If you are using baking soda, ensure that you apply generous amounts of the same on the place where the stains are present and soak it up with paper napkins. You may have to repeat the treatment a few times in order to succeed.

You may love your pet very much, but, it is your responsibility to keep the house odor free and if you are living in a rented apartment or a place that is not yours, you also have a duty to keep the place odor free. This is not only for other’s sake but for your own sense of hygiene as well. Eliminating dog odors is a process that can be done naturally and without too much expense.
