Ear mites can cause disturbance to your pets. They infect the ear canal causing itchiness that animals cannot resist and become restless. They frequently shake their head and rub their ears. These are highly infective agents and easily transmit to other pets in the house. Hence, they have to be given immediate care. Before you start any medication for ear mites, make sure that the ear problem is not due to other problems. You can confirm this by collecting debris from your pet’s ear and placing it on the table. In the debris you can see small white creatures moving. Here is a list of home remedies to provide relief to your pets from ear mites.
• Make solution of almond oil and vitamin E in a bottle and heat it to body temperature. Put a few drops of the solution in the ears and massage the ear. By using cotton swabs, clear all the debris from the ears. Application of this solution for about six days will give relief to your pets. Once the ear mites are cleared you can heal the wounded region of the ears by gently rubbing with mineral oil.
• Heat a small amount of salt and wrap it in a cloth along with onions or figs. Place it on the infected ear. The hot vapor from the cloth will eliminate the mites completely.
• Place cotton balls saturated with parsley oil in the ears, this will help to get rid of the problem of ear mites.
• Oil from ground ivy helps to obtain relief from ear ache and also cures the problem of ear mites.
• Vegetable oil or olive oil helps to eliminate all the mites from the ears, but they do not kill them. It is essential to use anti-parasitic medications to kill them. Use of sulfur gives relief from irritation caused due to mites.
• A mixture made from nine drops of yellow dock root extract and one tablespoon of water kills mites effectively.
• Diluted white vinegar can be used to remove all the debris from the ear and it also helps to heal the wounds caused by scratching.
• Application of few drops of corn oil in the ears gives relief from ear mites.
• Flea medications also help to obtain relief from ear mites.
• To prevent yeast infection that is common along with ear mite infection, it is recommended to use anti-yeast medications.
• In addition to using the above remedies, it is recommended to keep the ears dry and increase the air flow into the ears to prevent the bacterial growth that commonly accompanies mite infection.
• Check if the skin is also infected. If so, clean the skin with appropriate medications. It is suggested to keep the pet clean by frequent shampooing.
All the above remedies offer primary care and if these remedies do not offer relief to your pets then it is recommended to consult a veterinary doctor. However, to eliminate ear mites completely it is essential to use a medication for a very long time.
