Body Acne: Causes and Treatment
By Jonathan Pitts | Acne | Unrated

Just like facial acne body acne is quite common. Causes and the treatment methods for body acne slightly vary with that of the facial acne. Suffering with body acne is worse than facial acne. You have to bear the pain of the pimples throughout the body. Especially, if the buttock region is affected, you will feel it hard even to sit. Individuals with body acne hesitate to take part in recreational activities like swimming which reveal their skin to everyone. It even limits your dressing style. Especially, girls cannot wear tops with deep cuts or short skirts. Let’s know in detail about body acne.

Causes of Body Acne

Hereditary: If either of your parents has suffered from body acne then there is a great chance that you will inherit that property.

Excess perspiration: Some work styles cause excessive sweating, while others sweat more normally even if they are not involved in laborious work. Increased perspiration that makes the skin sticky and greasy increases the risk for acne.

Tight clothing: Some people prefer to use skin tights. If they are cottons that allow air to circulate it is fine. But if they are silks there is a great chance for acne.

Poor nutrition: If you are starving to maintain a slim figure then get ready to face the problem of body acne.

Hormones: Hormonal changes that are seen during teenage and pregnancy in women also cause body acne just like other forms of acne.

Treatment of Body Acne and Scars

Best treatment for body acne is to take long hot shower that opens up all your body pours and washes out all the clogged up waste. After having shower you should not put on clothes until the body dries up completely. Application of benzoyl peroxide a bactericidal agent gives good results. If you are not sure whether the pimples seen on your body are related to body acne or not, consult your doctor before you start any treatment. It is suggested to stop any treatments if they cause irritation to your skin. If the severity of body acne is high it is recommended to take the advice of a physician to prevent further worsening of the situation. In severe cases of body acne oral antibiotics, accutane and retin A are found to give good results.

As in facial acne scars are also found in body acne. Application of creams or emu oil immediately after the pimple cures reduces the extent of scar formation. If you cannot avoid scars then in most of the cases it will result in deep scars as the skin pores throughout the body are large and hence, a greater chance for forming large pimples that leave a deep scar. Some of the available treatment options to eliminate deep scars include micro pigmentation, scalpel excision, skin needling and subcision.

Preventive Measures

By following simple preventive measure you can reduce the risk of body acne.

• If you have sweated heavily, have a shower or change your clothing as early as possible.

• Wear clothes that allow free flow of air. Especially, in summer season prefer to wear dresses that are not skin tight.

• Use gentle cleanser to clean the body rather than those harsh cosmetic soaps.
