Home Treatment for Bruises

Bruise is a wound that occurs quite often amongst individuals. Perhaps, everyone had their share of bruises at some point or the other. A commonly heard skin injury, bruise results into a discolored skin area and minor scar marks, which are temporary in nature.

In most cases, there is no real risk associated with a bruise, as the skin is not exposed to the environment. Pain, redness and soreness are the common symptoms seen amongst the affected people. The blood collection causes the redness and discoloration of the skin. Accidents, sports injuries, falls and sudden impacts are amongst the few causes for bruises amongst people.

There are 3 types of bruises which last for few days to a few weeks. Subcutaneous, Intramuscular and Periosteal are the three types of bruises that one can get affected with. The treatment for bruise is most effective when the bruise is still ripe. One need not belong to any allied medical professions to be able to treat bruises on their own.

Fortunately, our body is equipped with enough resources to heal minor bruises on their own. However, one can follow certain remedies to fasten the healing process. As a matter of fact, there are bunch of remedies available for treating bruises. Let’s discuss the remedies over here.

First and foremost, washing the wound should be the prime thing running in your mind. Cold water and a good soap is a usual recommendation for a clean wash to avoid any kind of infection. After cleaning the wound, the next step is to apply ice on the affected area. Applying ice has two fold benefits. It reduces swelling and helps blood circulation within the affected area. Make sure that you do not apply ice directly on the wound. Wrap the ice inside a towel and then start applying it.

Keep the wound elevated if the wound is large. You can apply a bandage, if the skin is broken and take pain killers, if the pain is intense.

Once the ice is applied, gently massage the area near the wound to improve blood circulation. Make sure that you do not massage the affected area as it may intensify the pain. Many people use herbal leaves to cure bruises. Many herbs contain wound healing properties which is why they are applied in the form of paste to fasten the healing process. It is also important to pay heed to certain precautions, in order to make sure that the implemented treatment show quick results. One should avoid using the bruised part of the body until they are completely healed. Overworking the bruised body part can worsen the wound. Also ignoring the pain or swelling can prove to the fatal, if the bruise turns out to be a major one.

It is vital to keep an eye on the healing process. If the bruise lasts longer than a few weeks, it is advisable to meet a doctor for further medical assistance. Be careful to avoid falls and wear proper sports equipments to minimize possible bruises.
