Best Treatment for a Bee Sting?
By Rick Missimer | Medicine | Unrated

Bees are one amongst those insects that can cause acute medical problems. Unlike an insect bite, bee stings can be extremely agonizing and aggravating. They demand immediate attention, due to the acidic venom which gets into the body along with those painful stings. Death can potentially be the worst case scenario with bee stings, if one happens to be allergic to venom.

Soreness, redness and pain are the common symptoms seen amongst the victims. The pain might vanish after a while, but the swelling usually stays longer than the pain.

Honeybees have special hooks on their stinger. The stinger gets torn, when it tries to fly away after biting a person. This not only leaves the honeybee dead after the sting, but also leaves the victim upset and dependant on some medical attention.

The first step towards treating bee stings starts with the removal of the bee stinger. This act has to be performed as quickly as possible. You can use your fingers to get rid of the attached stinger.

Once you have removed the stinger, wash the affected body area with soap and water. To reduce the redness, one can apply an ice pack or a bag of very cold water on the affected site. Once done, apply some good lotion to reveal you from the pain and constant itching. Applying a paste of baking soda and water on the affected area will give you similar results.

These are some basic steps which works best, when you aren’t allergic to venom. There are several other home remedies for bee stings, which people follow based on their knowledge or some expert guidance. No matter what remedy one follows, make sure to get rid of the stinger in the first place.

It is estimated that 4% of the world population are allergic to bee venom. For those allergic victims, bee stings can be extremely fatal, and the remaining crowds are left off with temporary pain and discomfort. If you aren’t sure whether you are allergic to venom, your symptoms post the bee sting will most likely reveal the truth. If you happen to experience muscle cramps, severe headaches, drowsiness, breathing problems, low blood pressure or any such drastic health issues, you can gauge the fatalness of the bite, and call the ambulance immediately. Unless you see some serious reactions, you are more likely to get rid of the painful experience within a matter of few hours or most likely within a day or two.

Bee stings are usually an unprotected and surprise attack. Irrespective of the place, there is always a chance of you being a potential victim. Bees are attracted towards sweet food, fragrance and bright clothes. They aren’t considered aggressive, unless distracted.

If you happen to be outdoors enjoying the spring, you might encounter some bees. Take your time to enjoy the outing, but try your best to stay away from these flying creatures. Just make sure that you give those busy bees their space, in order to stay safe.
