Cooking Sirloin Steaks
By Jonathan Pitts | Cooking | Unrated

If you like to eat sirloin steaks, maybe it's about time to learn how to cook it the way you want it to be. Just be certain not to overcook it. There are some easy ways to do it. Besides, you'll get to enjoy it, too.

1. Before cooking, you should season the steak first with salt and pepper. But if you want to add in more seasoning, you can always prepare a rub. Get a zip lock baggie and put in more ingredients like garlic powder, some cayenne powder if you want a little spice, a little brown sugar and some pamprica. You can add or lessen each of the ingredients accordingly to your desired taste. Then lock the baggie and shake everything to mix well. Then rub all on both sides of the steak and let it stay for at least a couple of hours before cooking.

2. Now you can choose the method of cooking. Just be sure you use the proper tools like tongs for turning over the steak, some oil or butter for frying and the oven ready to broil setting.

• Grilling - The grill should be hot enough before putting the steak. The grilling time depends on the cut and size, but usually it takes about 5 minutes on each side. Use tongs in turning over the steak. If done to your liking, you can serve it right away hot.

• Pan frying - Put the steak in the middle of a hot skillet and cook for about 3-5 minutes on each side. Remember to turn it only once.

• Broiling - Place the steak on a stove using your broil setting. Cook steak for about 8-10 minutes. Then place it on a rack so it can continue to cook by itself while still hot.

• Oven - Depending on the thickness and size put the steak on a pan similar to a grill inside the oven to catch the juices while being cooked. It can be done in about 5-6 minutes and put it in a rack to rest if done to your liking.

3. When cooking steak, you can have the excess fat trimmings removed or at least lessened. This will prevent too much "popping" of the steak, especially when grilled. This can help lower unwanted calories in you after consuming it.

4. Keep brushing the steak with some marinade or barbecue sauce to have an added flavor while being cooked. This will also help keep the steak moist while cooking.

To make sure if the steak is done, you can visually do it by checking on the meat. Usually the steak is cooked medium if the meat is uniformly pink on the middle and slightly browner on the outside. If cooked medium rare, the meat is juicy and soft and mostly pink to red center in the inside and cooked outside.

After you are done with the cooking of the sirloin steak, you can always combine it with mashed or grilled potatoes. Some green salad is also a good combination.
