It’s small, metallic and resembles some sort of medieval torture device or cooking tongs. No, it’s not really a device that tortures nor does it aid in any sort of food making, it’s just an eyelash curler. It may seem daunting at first and you may not feel like using it because of the fear it may evoke. However, if used correctly, an eyelash curler can do wonders for a person’s eyes and ultimately enhance a person’s face.
The whole idea behind using an eye lash curler, like using mascara, it’s use to widen the eyes, and make them seem longer and fuller, in other words, highlight them. The best part about using an eye lash curler is that depending on the effect you desire, you can choose to combine the curler with mascara or even heat the curler to get more of a defined curl.
The first step when applying any makeup or using any face enhancer is to cleanse your face. Make sure there is no residue of old make up like mascara left over from the previous application. A curler works best on clean lashes. Next, ensure that all eye makeup like eyeliner, eye shadow or highlighter is already applied so as not to disturb the eye lash curling process or effect later.
To use an eye lash curler in its purest form, you must first open it using your thumb and index finger, with the curve of the curler facing out. Next, gently place the curler over your eye and at the base of the lashes. Your lashes will be between two sets of pads. Once your lashes are in place, squeeze or close the curler over your lashes by pressing your thumb and index finger towards each other, be careful not to catch your skin. Hold that position for about 15 seconds, then release. Your eye lashes will be curled. Remember not to pull when the curler is still closed. You would risk yanking out your lashes. For a well-rounded curl, pump (squeeze) your eyelash curler as you move up the length of your eyelashes. This kind of effect can be used on a daily basis if you prefer the natural look.
If a more defined and dramatic look is what you desire, then one can choose to use mascara with the eye lash curler. Simply apply your 1 to 3 coats of mascara, depending on the level of enhancement that you desire after having curled your eye lashes. The effects can be gorgeous. One doesn’t even have to invest in the most expensive mascara to achieve a fabulous look. Even mediocre mascara when combined with an eye lash curler can give amazing results.
For a longer lasting curl, you can choose to heat your curler. As with blow-drying, heat can curl your lashes more effectively and keep them curled longer, maybe even all day. The basics of curling your eye lashes are the same whether you choose to use a plain eye lash curler or use some heat with it. If you already have a plain eyelash curler and want to use a little heat, you can do so by using your blow dryer over the curler for a few seconds. However, discretion must be used because the skin on your face and more specifically near your eyes is very sensitive.
If you want that long lasting and defined eyes look every day and are planning to heat your eye lash curler every day, consider buying a heated curler instead. This allows you to get just the right amount of heat without harming your lashes.
Lastly, remember to take care of your eye lash curler by cleaning it regularly and changing the pads. If you do not change the pads your eye lash will be dented rather than curled look, not to mention, may also cause some pain. Eye lash curlers are available in both plastic and metallic and are essential face utensils. Don’t let the look of the curler scare you. Instead, let it help you enhance your natural beauty.
