The Safest Breeds of Dogs for Children
By Jonathan Pitts | Pet Related | Unrated

Children love pets, especially dogs. But at time, kids can also end up annoying dogs inadvertently, which can lead to dangerous reciprocations from the dog’s side. However, these incidents can be avoided if you learn the possible dangers that are associated with some of the breeds of dogs. Though any dog can be trained and made loyal but this a proven fact that some breeds of dogs are safer with children when compared to the others.

The point to consider is that any dog can be at its best with children when trained. When you get a dog in your house, make sure that the dog is accustomed to living with children around. Has the dog lived previously around children and has it been trained on how to behave with children. Another consideration is are your children comfortable, living with the dog around and are they familiar with the treatment that they should give to the dog. Make sure that you know the breed of the dog and whether it has been bred to be a hunting dog or a companion dog.

Some of the breeds of dogs that are considered to be safe for children are mentioned below:

Pug - The small dogs are usually considered to be safe because even if they bite or end up harming your child the consequences are not severe and can be easily overcome. It is also seen that the small dogs are usually hesitant to interact with children, but Pugs mix easily and are happy to be around them.

Golden or Labrador Retriever - These dogs belong to the patient category and would never bother you or your kids unnecessarily. Golden is considered better than Labrador but requires high maintenance because of the longer coat. They are also said to be the soft-mouthed dogs and have a softer bite. They love to carry stuff in their mouth.

The other safe breed dogs include the Australian Shepherd, English Bulldog, Bearded Collie, Boxer, Portuguese Water Dog, English Shepherd, Newfoundland, Flat-Coated Retriever, Sussex Spaniel, Old English Sheepdog, Standard Poodle, Boston Terrier, and Saint Bernard.

Getting a sprayed or neutered dog is also a benefit, as the process would get rid of some of the aggressive characters in the dog. However, this does not guarantee that your kids would be safe with the dog. Get a dog that is socially enjoys being playful with the kids. Usually, people think that puppies would be safe for their kids. But puppies have spar teeth that can harm your kid. It is better to have an adult dog, which has been trained specially to live with kids. Also, make sure that you get your dog vaccinated according to the schedules so that it won’t have a serious effect even if the dog tries to harm your kid.

It is a fact that some of the dogs are more tolerant and patient with children as compared to others. However, before you get a dog for your children make sure that the dog has been trained to live with kids, and also never leave your kids alone with the dogs.
