Medical Treatment for Tinnitus
By Rick Missimer | Tinnitus | Unrated

A ringing sound without the presence of any external noise, tinnitus is a bothersome symptom, which has victimized over 29 million people across the world. Tinnitus represents constant noise in one or both the ears of the victim.

The noise is loud enough to annoy you, and distract your thoughts. One of the biggest problems faced by tinnitus victims is their inability to get a good night’s sleep. Imagine trying to take a quick nap to distress yourself from a stressful day’s work. Just about this time, you could possibly hear some ringing sounds in your ears, which can last for the whole night. Unfortunately, there are many people who are experiencing this horrible situation because of tinnitus. The sound can start low and get louder over time. The symptoms can last for a few days to a full lifetime.

There are several factors responsible for stimulating the risk of tinnitus amongst individuals. Damage to inner ears, playing music on loud volume and prolonged exposure to noisy places are amongst the few causes that can give rise to tinnitus.

If you suffer from tinnitus, then getting rid of them should be the first thing running in your mind. Unfortunately, there is no cure to tinnitus as yet. Most people just learn to adjust with it. However, one should do everything in their power to reduce the impact of tinnitus.

Stress is said to trigger tinnitus, which is why one should not burden themselves with too much stress, despite the situations in life. If there is any specific action that triggers this symptom, then you may want to combat that problem first, in order to get rid of tinnitus.

There are many medical prescriptions available for curing tinnitus, if they were caused due to some kind of medication. Depending upon the evaluation done by the doctor after assessing the cause of tinnitus, prescribed medication can be recommended by the doctor.

Let’s take a look at some of the treatments used for tinnitus.

Ear plugs

Ear plugs are often used by people who suffer from tinnitus due to loud noise. Ear plugs restricts loud noise from entering your ears, and thus prevents constant stimulation of tinnitus.

Ear drops

Ear drops containing hydrocortisone are dropped into the ears of people who suffer from tinnitus due to ear infection. Your doctor will prescribe a proper ear drop based on the severity of the problem.

Anti-depressant drugs

There are many anti-depressant drugs known to work well against tinnitus. Xanax and Intravenous Lidocaine are two well known anti-depressant drugs that are used for tinnitus cure.

Surgery

Few people even resort to surgery to cure tinnitus. The downside to this method is that it may also impact your natural hearing ability. Surgery should be tried as the last resort, if all natural and conventional medications fail to work.

Living with tinnitus can be a real problem. Constant noise in the ears can be very annoying and agonizing. Tinnitus can occur to anyone at any point of time. Hopefully, in the near future medical science would be equipped with adequate medication to cure tinnitus completely, irrespective of its causes.
