What Are the Best Exercises for Abs?
By Jonathan Pitts | Training | Unrated

Abdominal exercises help to lose that excess body fat, and also help to strengthen the abdominal muscles back to normal after delivering a baby in women. Most of them consider that abdominal exercises help to lose the belly fat, but it is completely wrong. Exercises concentrating on a particular body part do not help to lose the fat from that particular part but help in strengthening the particular body part. Similarly, abdominal exercises help to have a healthy spine and strong abdominal muscles. They help to regain the elasticity that is lost after giving birth to a baby in women. They even help to assess your core strength.

Before you start to practice exercises that are specific to certain body parts, it is essential to tone up your body so that it can take up that extra pressure. Walking is the best start up exercise for those who haven’t done exercises for a very long time. It is very simple and can be done by anyone irrespective of age and health conditions like obesity.

Following are some of the best abdominal exercises discussed below.

• Bicycle exercises are the best exercises to maintain the health of rectal region of the abdomen. These exercises are performed by lying down on the floor and bringing the legs close to chest. This is followed by stretching one leg while simultaneously turning the upper body part to the side opposite to the stretched leg. This gives a pedalling motion and has to be repeated for about 12-16 times.

• Plank exercise: this helps to have a flat abdomen. To start doing this exercise take the pose you will be taking while doing the push up. Now, lie down your entire body in a straight line. Do not either sag your belly or bend your neck. Take a deep breath and try to hold the pose as long as you can.

• Ball exercises: ball exercises are good workouts for your abdominal muscles. These are better exercises when compared to push up.

• Ab slide: if you are easily handling the simple Ab exercises, you can go ahead and start practicing more critical exercises that are generally performed using the Ab slide. But, take care about your back, and this is recommended to do it initially under the guidance of a trainer. If you can go to gym, you will find equipment that are similar to Ab slide and much more safe and easy compared to Ab slide. One such equipment that helps to build abdominal muscles is vertical knee raise machine.

It is recommended to practice all the above exercises under the guidance of an experienced professional. Start slowly by practicing once or twice a day and slowly increase the numbers. However, if you are fat, it is essential that you lose all that fat underlying your skin tissues first to expose your abs. This can be better achieved by following proper nutrition along with the exercises. Consume foods that are well balanced in all nutrients and rich in fiber. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good source of fiber, and also help to strengthen the body by providing all the essential vitamins and vegetables. Protein rich foods help to build the muscles and also help in the repair process.
