By Mark Perry | Cooking | Unrated

Strawberries are one of the most exotic and well liked fruit around the globe. They are red, luscious, and juicy, and will give you a delightful feeling after eating them. Whether eaten plain or in a dessert, they are really exquisite. It is one fruit that is available in all parts of the world and is enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Strawberry shortcake as dish is one of the most popular ways to eat strawberries in the form of a dessert. It looks divine and is not difficult to create at home.

Strawberry shortcake dessert is exactly what the name suggests. It is fresh strawberries over shortcake. To make it yourself you will need the some ingredients. To make the shortcake or the biscuit you will need:

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons sugar

1 chilled stick of butter

3/4 cup milk or cream

To make the strawberry filling you will need:

fresh strawberries

1/3 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups whipping cream for topping

Preparation:

1. Start by rinsing the strawberries under cold water. Let the excess water dry off. Slice the strawberries and put them in a bowl. Sprinkle the sugar over the strawberries and put a lid on the bowl. Let the sugar dissolve over the berries for about an hour.

2. While the strawberries are soaking in the sugar, you can whip the cream. If you have store bought whip cream then just wait for the strawberries to soak. Cover it and let it stand at room temperature for about 1 hour.

3. The oven should be preheated to 425 degrees.

4. In another bowl, add the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and mix. Cut butter and add to the mixture. Knead the dough till the mixture is lumpy. Add milk into the dough and stir with a fork until the dough is moist. Pour the dough onto a baking pan which is lightly sprinkled with flour. Knead the dough over and over again till it is less sticky and staying in place.

5. Gently pat the dough into a rectangle about 3/4-inch thick. At this point, you can decide whether you want to make individual cakes or one large one. Transfer the dough onto a buttered cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until risen and golden brown.

6. Butter the cake and then top it with the strawberry mixture. Add fresh strawberries on top for garnish. Serve with whipped cream to top it off.
