Motivating Children to Do Chores at Home
By Jason Ladock | Parenting | Unrated

Having your children to do the chores at home can be a difficult task, but it is one of the best ways in which you can prepare your child to be a responsible adult in the coming days. Getting your children do the household chores cannot only be of help to you but this will also help your child to learn the intricacies of life. When a child is assigned a house chore, then this would be teaching him how to be responsible and act with commitment.

However, children may look for reasons that can help them escape from doing the house chores. It is up to you on how you can engage your kids with the chores at home and also keep them amused in it. Here are some of the ways that you can motivate your children to do the home chores.

• Have little expectations from your children. Do not overload them with any tasks. You can start by assigning small things like keeping away their toys in place after they finish playing, keeping the soiled clothes in the laundry basket, and more. Breaking bigger tasks into small parts can make it easier for your children.

• It is important that you make your child realize the importance of doing the chores at home. Most of the children do not understand that why should they provide a helping hand. It is important that you make them realize that every member of the family should be contributing towards the house jobs so that the house moves smoothly.

• Children always look up to what adults are doing. It is important that you set an example for your child. If you, yourself are unable to do the task in a right manner then your chills would also stray away from it. Hence, it is important that when your child is around, you should act responsible.

• When you assign a task to your child it is important that you also teach them how to perform it. Younger kids specially require supervision when they are doing something. It is better to keep them involved with you when you are cleaning or doing the laundry, so that they can understand the right way of doing the job.

• Make the chore seem to be fun. When you assign some task ask your child to do it, and once the task is done treat your child with some delicious food. You can also include some fun activities like playing in water while watering the plants.

• When your child finishes a task, always keep in mind that you should appreciate it. This motivates the child to perform better the next time that you assign your child a task. Also, make sure that you listen to what your child has to say. Let your kid choose what he/she wants to do, and make it a point that you do not do the unfinished task of your child. Make him/her do it, this will teach them that what is assigned to them should need to finish it.

Making your child do the chores at home will not only makes him/her responsible but also teaches the child how to value time and money. Always be supportive in what your child does and do not forget to appreciate them.
