The decision to stop drinking is a hard one. But it can be done with some helpful tips like assisting the alcoholic drinker to a life free of alcohol. Here are some good tips on how to go about it.

Do it yourself because nobody can do it for you. You accept that you have a problem and that you are ready to deal with it. Deal with it the earliest possible time.

Know the importance of exercise. This helps lessen relapse while the person is trying to stay sober. Exercise helps in lowering stress and makes the person feel more relaxed. It also helps get rid of toxins in the body.

Reward yourself. Learn to reward yourself when you are doing well in reaching your goals to stop drinking. Rewards help keep your spirits up. Rewards may come as form of compliments from your family or buying some new clothes for the new you.

Don’t feel guilty. Try not to feel guilty if you fall a step backward because you had a relapse and was tempted to drink again. Being guilty is a setback. Just go on with your goal and take the challenge as much as you can. Realize that this is not easy for you and that you must have all the strength and determination to see this through.

Don’t be afraid to get some outside help. You can join Alcoholic Anonymous or a therapy group to help you. It is good to share the same problems with others. You can also seek out some counseling from your trusted priest or from a reputable psychiatrist. You can ask a doctor or a health practitioner to make a diet plan for you which you can follow.

Try to look or seek out company of your family and friends. Having them around as support or as your lifeline would be good for you. Have a pet to take care of as this will also keep your mind off alcohol.

Develop a new daily routine that does not involve alcohol. You can get up early and do some exercise and other activities like walking the dog, cleaning and cooking to keep your mind of drinking. Start forming new habits so to keep you busy most of the time.

Most of all think of your health because too much alcohol affects every organ in the body which may lead to more serious complications later on, even death. Stop drinking because you love yourself and your family too. The sooner you stop drinking, the sooner you will feel better and enjoy your life free of alcohol. Nothing is more important than that.
