How to Stop Cat Fights
By Jonathan Pitts | Pet Related | Unrated

If you have more than one cat in the house, it is more likely that you have experienced some cat fighting. It is not a good sight to see cats fighting together with all the noises they produce because of the fights. These are some ways that may help you remember some good pointers if you want to stop cat fights in your home.

• If the cats start to scratch and fight each other, the first thing to do is to think of a practical way to separate them. If you want to stop the cats using your hands, get some protection like thick gloves. You can quickly pick up one of the cats to stop the fight.

• Try to use a broom or a good stick to separate the cats. As soon as separated, try to lead one of the cats to a separate room to calm down.

• A good spray of cold water is very effective to stop cat fights. Cats don’t like to be wet too much. If one cat is more aggressive, spray more of the water to cool it down and make sure to spray into its eyes and nostrils.

• Try to distract the cats by yelling in a very loud voice at the same time making swift movements of your hands like shooing them away from each other. If the fighting cats are a bit far, try running after them but with the necessary protection of a stick or big rag to protect you from being attacked by the cats.

• Food is one common cause of cat fights, so provide separate food plates for the cats during feeding time. Place the plates as far as possible like having separate rooms for each of the cat.

• Cats should have separate litter boxes and should be placed in different areas far from each cat.

• If the cats are not yours, the best way to do is to distract them by throwing a soft plastic ball at them and just shoo them away from your home.

• Remember that cats can be territorial. If your cats fight, one of the reasons can be dominance. If one of your cats tries to dominate your other cat, try the above steps, and then after separating them perhaps you can ask your vet to have your cats neutered or sprayed to lessen their aggressiveness.

Of course, people like to care for cats because they are cute and good home companions. They also like to be cuddled and showered with attention. Make time for each cat to play around and try to have them together if the cats are in a playful mood. By showing your cats an equal care and attention, the cats would somehow feel secured in its place in your household.
