Pet Urination Problems
By Jonathan Pitts | Pets Health | Unrated

The challenge for pet owners is how to have their pets eliminate away with their urination problems. These inappropriate elimination problems by pets should be dealt as soon as possible to help their pets avoid such bad habits.

The pet owner should first find out if the urination problem is a medical condition. The pet’s urine can be tested by a veterinarian to find more about this problem. The pet could have some physical illness such as bladder infection. Behavior can be another cause of urination problems, and this becomes the challenge for the pet owner to determine the cause of the inappropriate behavior, and impose the necessary corrections for these problems.

Since household pets commonly pertain to dogs and cats, the most common urination problems of these pets are as follows:

• Cats will urinate to show its dominance by urinating on a spot it chooses. The urine smells very strong.

• It is urinating more if it is caused by a possible bladder problem. If your pet tries to urinate but nothing or very little urine comes out, it consumes more water and at the same time urinates more than the normal times it should be doing.

• Your pet starts urinating anywhere inside the house away from the litter box. Your pet urinates wherever it has decided to stay for sometime usually on the rug or carpet. There are the times that the cat chooses to urinate in closets, storage boxes and behind the couch and under beds.

There is the problem of submissive urination usually with dogs and urination problems include:

• When the dog is being regarded with a loud and harsh command as if it is scolded, then the dog starts to feel to urinate.

• Urination also occurs when the dog is being greeted with too much excitement.

• When the dog is a bit shy or anxious, and if these are triggered off, then the dog can start urinating.

• If the dog has a history of cruelty and abuse from previous owners, it can start urinating if it feels treated like before. Urination also occurs when a dog feels threatened.

• Dogs, like cats will also mark their territory, especially the males urinating on a spot.

There is also the problem about incontinence which is the involuntary urinating of pets. If triggered by some factors, pets can’t control this problem. Pets can be suffering from involuntary incontinence due to some bladder problems. As pets grow older, they may have involuntary urinating problems because of some damage to the muscles that hold urine within the bladder. There may be other contributing factors and diseases that can trigger a pet to urinate more than normal and most of these are common in older pets.

The urination problems of pets should be treated with utmost care because these pets don’t have to take all the blame for their problems. As their pet owners, we are on a more dominant position to take charge and correct their inappropriate urination problems.

It would also be nice to remember that at times, pet urination problems occur because we are the one that cause them to happen. Pets are exposed to different environments and if your home is new to them; it would take some time for them to adjust to their new home, so these urination problems are likely to be one of those adjustments. However, if we have more patience and understanding of our pets, these problems will somehow eliminate soon enough.
