Nummular Eczema 101

Nummular eczema has a tendency to strike older people, especially those who carry dry and sensitive skin. They appear like a coin in shape with itchy rashes on the torso, limbs and lower body parts. They appear red in color in the initial stage, and will look like ringworms upon further development.

Unfortunately, the exact cause of nummular eczema is yet a mystery in the eyes of medical science. However, they are several factors held responsible for the cause of nummular eczema. This skin condition can be caused due to hereditary factors or excessive stress. Allergy to certain substances can also erupt to the cause of nummular eczema amongst some individuals.

Individuals are more prone to catch this ailment during winter season. The worst part is that this skin condition can prevail for many years. It’s important to make all these precautionary measure a part of your lifestyle and habit for a quick recovery.

There are several treatments available to get rid of nummular eczema. One can fight back the condition with several powerful remedies.

Moisturize your skin frequently with a good product after taking your bath. Continue the moisturizing process throughout the day to ensure that your skin is not dry for the most of the day. Apply some good soothing lotion or cream to provide you with some relief from the itchiness, and to heal the infection.

Topical corticosteroid is one of the most popular vaccinations used for the cure of nummular eczema. Cortisone or corticosteroid ointments are applied on the affected area to get relief. Some individuals also follow oral antihistamines to reduce the itching. Chronic cases of nummular eczema may also involve ultraviolet light treatment.

Nummular eczema can be chronic and recurrent as well. It is said to affect nearly 2 out of every 1,000 Americans. Although it strikes elderly people more often, it can victimize people of all ages, irrespective of the gender. Have an appointment with a dermatologist, if the problem persists despite treatment and precautionary measures in place. Although difficult to cure, they can be dealt with persistent effort and proper medication.
