How to Overcome Fear
By Jason Ladock | Mental Health | Unrated

Probably, one of the most negative emotional feelings that a person ever gets to feel is fear. This emotion of fear can be so downright damaging to our lives, because it can put a lot of strain to our personal relationships and careers. It affects our attitudes, behaviors and the way we think about everything. So, it is just right that people have come up with some recommended ways to overcome fear.

It would be good to find out what your fear is all about. If you fear physical things like darkness, fear of insects or animals or to a more psychological kind like fear of pain, failure and a lot more. Then, try your best to analyze these fears and understand them. Try to counter these fears by thinking positive thoughts and think of positive situations on how you would deal with these fears. Practice your mind to think positively each time you feel fear.

There’s no other way to overcome fear but to confront it. It is easier said than done, but you have to build up your self confidence first before doing this. If you are afraid of an insect, just think that you are bigger than it and you can protect yourself from it. Face the fear as long as you know that there is no physical danger for you; otherwise you are just adding more to your fear. Confront it by thinking rationally and visualizing positively on how to face it. This will make you more confident to deal with your fear.

Try to control your imagination, because most of the time fear starts when we think of something negative would happen when it’s not even supposed to take place. It starts when you worry about something and thinking about it too much, then you will feel anxious until you feel fear inside you. It is again a matter of controlling your mind to think of more positive things than negative ones.

As most people say, fear is only in the mind. Well, this is true, because how you think affects your whole personality. You just need to always remember that fear makes you afraid and helpless; it makes you a dysfunctional person, it makes you unhappy and at times, it makes you feel stupid. Many of your fears may not even happen and a lot of your time is wasted thinking about it. You have to take a grip of yourself and have more positive thoughts in your mind to make you a better person.

If you need more help, you can seek out a qualified psychologist to help you assess your fear. Reading about self help books would be beneficial as well. Sharing and talking about your fear with family and close friends would help you to lessen it since these are people who will give their support anytime you need it.

Don’t let fear run and ruin your life. It is not right, it is unhealthy and it is certainly not the kind of life you deserve.
