How to Overcome Negativity

If you are the type of person who looks at things, people and life in general with nothing but negative thoughts, then you have a negativity problem. This is a bad trait that should be corrected and avoided. It will only make your life miserable if you continue with this behavior. It is unhealthy for you and for your family and friends as well. There are some simple ways to overcome negativity and improve your life better.

• Start with yourself-analyze and find out why you have this feeling, what triggers it and make a list. In this list, note down ways that would help you avoid such situations. Make it a habit to go through your list so you would not forget.

• Stay away from negative people or those with negative thoughts because their negativity may somehow grow on you. Better choose the right people who don’t have these traits.

• Try to make friends and mingle with people who believe more on positivity so their positive outlook traits will somehow rub on you.

• Try to look at the brighter side of things because there should always be a bright side in any situation. It is just having the positive attitude to handle the problems facing you. Always think of your past achievements or similar situations where you were able to turn things around to a more positive side because of your optimism.

• To lessen your negativity on something you have to do, make some good planning to ensure you would be successful in what you are going to do, plus making some flexibility for adjustments in case things become complicated. Keep your focus on what you have to do.

• If you feel yourself being negative about a situation, try to interject some laughter in you. Perhaps you can joke with people around you, read something funny and make light of the situation. This will somehow make you feel more relaxed and reduce your negativity.

• Always keep a positive attitude. Think positive at every opportunity and work your mind towards it. It always starts with a thought, so it would be a lot better for you to start with a positive thought and end with one as well. Try to help yourself further by reading on some self improvement books.

Of course, there will always be some negativity in each one of us. It is a wise thought to acknowledge its presence in any person. However, there is also the acknowledgement that it is a bad behavior that should not be tolerated, it should be controlled or even totally eliminated.

Life is full of ups and downs, a reason why negativity may exist. But, this should not be the case at all. It should be more of a case of living life with a more positive outlook and living it happily the way it should be.
