What Causes White Spots on Lips

White spots on the lip may mean viral infections. The most common oral infections can be because of herpes, human papilloma virus, and other virus that can increase the cause of having white spots on your lips like measles, mumps, rubella and more. Here are some other types of oral cavity that can cause white spots:

  • Oral herpes which can also be because of common colds.
  • Genital herpes.
  • Chickenpox & secondary herpes.
  • Those people who have low immune system.
  • Virus that infects the salivary gland and other mouth tissues.
  • Lymphomas.

Viral infections are air born and mostly it is not life threatening. However, with patients suffering from low immune system, it can be fatal to have a viral infection because the body cannot fight and can’t win over the virus. It’s really hard to assess the cause of white spots on the lips. You should consult a doctor in order for you to know the reason behind it.

It’s hard to assess a white spot especially without any physical check up. It can be a symptom of some other problem other than virus. Most of the time, some people think that there is a home remedy for this, because it doesn’t look serious, they think they can get away with it just by simply using home and herbal remedies.

Let yourself be examined by a doctor to confirm that you are still in good health and your body is physically fit. In major cases, white spots on the lip may mean Fordyce’s spot. It is not a symptom of any kind of disease or serious illness; it’s just a usual thing that can happen to a person especially if your immune system is weak. Basically, this condition is not serious and doesn’t result in fatality.

Mostly, it’s not really serious, some people are just very conscious and because it’s not a usual thing, you tend to think that it is serious condition but it’s not. It’s not really bothersome, but if you are not satisfied seeing this white spot on your lip, you can ask your doctor for help in choosing the right treatment for you. Some of the most common treatments for lip discoloration are the following:

  • Laser
  • Chemical peeling

These are common and quite expensive but they only provide temporary relief. You need to seek for medical help so you can avoid the risk of having a serious ailment. Though there are home remedy for this kind of ailments, you cannot just rely on them, they provide temporary relieve with your condition. Always check with your doctor for any unwanted symptoms that you may experience. Keep in mind that anything unusual may mean serious illness later on; you need to check with your doctor regularly to avoid getting serious ailments.
