No matter how bald your baby was at birth, sooner or later, her hair will start growing. Once your baby’s hair starts looking straggly and strands start falling over her eyes, you might want to give her a haircut. The good news is that you don’t have to rush to the parlor when you want to give your baby a haircut. You can do it easily at home. Here are a few steps to help you out:
Step 1: The first step is to get your baby to stay still. This is a touch task because babies are always busy exploring the world around them. Cut your baby’s hair when she is in a good mood. Make sure that she is not hungry or sleepy or tired because she will be fussy and getting her to stay still will be impossible. Place your baby in a high chair or any other secure chair and drape a towel over her shoulders. Offer her some toys or play an interesting DVD to distract her while you are cutting her hair.
Step 2: Keep the scissors out of your baby’s sight. Your baby may get scared when she sees scissors coming towards her or she may try to grab the scissors from you. Get scissors which are meant especially for cutting kids hair. These scissors won’t hurt or injure your baby if she manages to get hold of it.
Step 3: Gently talk to your baby and start cutting her hair. If possible ask someone to help you out by talking to and distracting your baby.
Step 4: The real hair cutting part starts now. Spray some water over your baby’s hair. If your baby doesn’t like that, simply run a wet hair brush through her hair. Brush your baby’s hair thoroughly to eliminate tangles.
Step 5: Take some hair between your fingers and slide your fingers to the point where you want to cut and gently cut with the scissors. Just the way your hairdresser does with your hair.
Step 6: Start with the bangs and move on to the hair at the back and sides of the head.
Be careful and gentle while cutting your baby’s hair. You can never predict when your baby will jerk or turn his head and if you are not careful, you may end up hurting or injuring your baby. Don’t continue cutting your baby’s hair if she seems irritated. If you do, you may wind up with a bad haircut and an unhappy baby.
On the whole, cutting a baby’s hair is not a tough task so, save a few dollars by doing it yourself.
