Constipation is a very uncomfortable and painful feeling most especially for children. This is commonly due to lack of proper nutrients in the child’s diet. Constipation is also caused by lack of water, drinking too much milk and improper toilet training and imbalanced diet. There are effective constipation remedies for children and these should be followed through for better results.
• First, make it a point to have your children to drink plenty of water to prevent constipation. Always ensure a well balanced diet, enough sleep and rest for your children.
• Try to give just enough cows’ milk for the child to drink. Too much milk may cause constipation to some children. Let your older children drink soya milk instead, since it is less constipating but just as nutritious as well.
• Add more fiber to the child’s diet. Have them eat more fresh fruits and leafy vegetables and avoid giving too much milk, cheese and other low fiber foods.
There are useful and practical constipation remedies such as the following:
• Eat a pear as a fruit after meals or squeezed into juice to drink. This is good to prevent constipation.
• Bale fruit is one of the best laxatives since it helps clean intestines. The fruit may be eaten after dinner. Prolonged eating of this fruit results to good and proper elimination of accumulated wastes inside the body.
• Eating one or 2 guavas a day is good to prevent constipation since guava seeds aid in easier bowel movement.
• Grapes are good to be included in the diet since these help tone contracted muscles and help relieve constipation. In lieu of grapes, raisins soaked in water for about 48 hours would do. These are preferably eaten in the morning and the juice is good to drink too.
• Eating one or 2 oranges help in proper stimulation of waste movement.
• Try to include a medium sized papaya for breakfast. This acts as a good laxative.
• Spinach is also good to be eaten, as this aids in cleansing the intestinal tract. This can be also mixed with water to make a juice and to be used to drink to relieve constipation pains.
• Another effective remedy is using half a lime and ˝ tsp of salt with warm water and drinking it in the form prevents constipation. This aids in cleansing of the colon as well.
• Prune juice and Papaya are good to relieve constipation.
• Dilute corn syrup in one table spoon of water and this will immediately relieve constipation.
• Add about one teaspoon of honey to a glass of water or milk to relieve constipation pains.
• The use of over the counter laxatives should be used sparingly preferably with doctor’s prescription to ensure proper treatment. Try natural laxatives like mineral oil or milk of magnesia. Certain glycerin suppositories are also used to as remedy of constipation for children.
