Most people shake hands when introduced to each other. That is an accepted social gesture in many parts of the world. This is one reason why our hands should always look clean. They should be given the proper care just like the rest of the parts of the body. One of the most common problems involving the hands is having sweaty palms. This condition may cause discomfort and may be regarded as a social embarrassment for the person. There are measures to prevent and cure sweaty palms and these range from practical solutions to some medical procedures.
The problem of sweaty palms is known as Palmer Hyperhidrosis which is usually triggered by stress, anxiety and some emotional problems. Some cases may be hereditary. The other reasons of having sweaty palms may be due to menopause, obesity, psychiatric disorders and hyperthyroidism. Regardless of all these, there are some practical and easy measures to this problem.
Try rubbing enough amount of cornstarch or talcum powder in your hands. You can also use some antiperspirant with high aluminum chloride concentrate. Try thick lotion since this would help block sweat in the palms. A pack of alcohol wipes is also good to bring relief to the palms so it would be practical to keep some in your purse or pocket for instant use.
Keep a handy absorbent hankie or cloth with you to instantly dry your palms.
If you feel your palms are starting to sweat, just discreetly put your hands into your pockets and rub into the insides of your pockets.
An effective home remedy is by using some ordinary and regular teabags. Allow about 15 minutes each day to hold teabags in both hands. These teabags help close pores of the hands to prevent sweat.
Another home treatment is Iontopheresis. It is using a device with electric currents and combination of water. The combination of electricity and water results to shocking the sweat glands not to produce too much sweat, and with prolonged use of this method would totally eliminate the sweating problem of hands.
Try to practice relaxation techniques. Try breathing exercises to relax you. Always remember to keep your focus and be calm as these traits would help prevent the sweating of the palms.
There are some medications prescribed for sweaty palms like Ditropan and Probanthine. The disadvantage of taking some oral medications is having side effects such as blurred vision and dryness of the mouth.
The severe cases of sweaty palms may be prevented and somehow cured by some medical procedures. Botox injections are applied on the palms to stop sweating. However, injections costs are high and the injections are painful. A medical procedure known as Endoscopic surgery involves some small incisions on the chest area to cut the nerve which controls the production of sweat glands. This treatment is relatively minor as the patient can check out after some hours after the surgery.
Having sweaty palms will become a major hindrance to a person’s personal and social life if preventive measures are not followed. Since some reasons of having this problem include a person’s life style, then it must be worthy to start living a well balanced life of work and play, leisure and rest and having a positive attitude in life.
