By Mark Perry | Pet Related | Unrated

You will not be able to have a hard time in finding a hamster; this pet is available anywhere in a pet store. They do not take up much room in your home. If you are planning of getting one to keep, you don’t have to think twice because these little pets are not hard to take care of. They won’t demand much of your time and money. Although, each hamster has their own personality and characteristics, they are not created to be independent as dogs and cats. They merely rely on you being their master.

Before you rush to a nearby pet shop, you need to check on these things. Knowing the following hamster care tips will bring you and your pet lots of happiness:

• Consider what kind of hamster you are getting. Syrian hamster is a larger type. They usually want to grow alone. Most hamsters when they reached adulthood, they tend to fight so you should not keep them in one cage. When you buy hamsters, do not buy more of the Syrian type, they tend to fight until one of them dies. Unlike other breed, they are alright living together until adulthood.

• Buy the suitable size cage fit for them until they grow old.

• When getting a cage, be sure to have the most suitable for your pet. Some people think that a round or oval shaped cage is perfect. Due to poor eyesight of hamsters, they are having a hard time with round or oval cage. What they need is a cage which will give them comfortable corners.

• A glass fish tank can also be suitable for a hamster cage. They will enjoy living in it because it has a very nice and well smoothed place to live. It also has sufficient air which will enable them to breathe freely.

• Proper bedding accessories also count a lot. Do not use chlorophyll shavings; these materials are bad for them.

• Hold the pet or stroke it several times before you buy them. Some people say that female hamsters are aggressive than the male. You have an option to choose among hamsters in the pet shop.

• Be sure their cage is ready before they move in.

• Hold them and play with them to make them tamer to you. They are also like humans, they need to be pampered and loved.

• You can reward them with blueberries, fresh fruits and vegetables. You should remove left over to prevent them from being sick.

• Always make it a habit to clean their cage even once a week. It will keep them away from any harmful diseases.

• Get a travel cage so that whenever you clean their cage, they have an alternative cage to stay.

• Give them lots of time, so they will be used to you.

• You need to ensure that their food has an adequate amount of salt.

• Hamsters do not need much amount of food. You only need to give them Ό tsp. of food.
