Warts are some kinds of infection that can grow on all parts of the body. These are caused by the virus known as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) which is considered to be one of the most common viruses known in the medical field. These can be found on the skin of the fingers and hands, on the feet, inside the mouth and in the genital areas of a person. The warts can cause some discomfort since these can cause itchiness and pain when bumped or bruised. If warts are found in the genital areas, it would be wise to seek medical help so these can be prevented from spreading any further.
Treatment is important to prevent genital warts. Though some doctors claim that these warts are generally harmless, there is still a lot of concern about these warts being contagious. This kind of infection can be transmitted to another person by sexual contact. If the person who has genital warts comes in sexual contact with another, chances are the other person will be contaminated with the warts.
Genital warts can be found as small clusters, flat or slightly protruded skin bumps in the genital areas of a woman. These can cause further harm to the woman’s health, because if left untreated would possibly result to cervical cancer. If a pregnant woman has genital warts, the virus can be transferred to the baby when she gives birth. The infection can also result to anal cancer for both man and woman.
If genital warts are left untreated for some time, there would always be the possibility that these warts would spread more into the genitals. The bad thing about warts is that these tend to grow and multiply as long as the virus is active. Sometimes, the virus can form cells that may result to cancer of the genitals parts of both man and woman.
The treatment of genital warts should be done by a doctor. Treatments may come in the form of special chemicals that are applied to the infected parts and this may take several weeks to get rid of the warts. There are other effective treatments such as laser surgery, electro surgery and other medical procedures.
However, there are practical preventions which doctors advise to people who have genital warts. One is protected sex by using condoms to prevent contamination to the partner. Another is by maintaining only one sexual partner. The decision to avoid sex or abstinence is another effective way. The woman can have Pap smear examinations regularly when she is sexually active to ensure that she is free from the virus.
One of the most important reasons why you should treat genital warts is to prevent further complications which would result to a more dreadful disease such as cancer. It is always better to seek medical treatment early than much later where treatment may be no longer possible.
