By Jonathan Pitts | Tinnitus | Unrated

Tinnitus refers to ringing sound that occurs in the ear. It is a problem with the middle ear. Individuals who suffer with tinnitus find it hard to go to sleep. Whatever the remedies you use they only help you to improve the condition but do not give complete relief. The following are some tips to help you have a good night sleep if you have tinnitus.

• Reduce or avoid having salty and spicy foods as they are found to worsen the ringing.

• Reduce the amount of caffeine you have. Drinking plenty of water also helps to reduce tinnitus.

• Never sleep in a room that is quiet. Play some mild classic music whenever you go to bed. You will find it more uncomfortable if large sounds accompany ringing.

• Think of something pleasant or read an interesting novel to divert your attention from tinnitus. Whenever you awake in the middle of the sleep do not think of your tinnitus. Then, you will be unable to get back to sleep. Divert your attention from that worse tinnitus and you will soon fall asleep.

• If you have a table fan, place it just by your side. The sound of the fan will lessen your feel of having tinnitus.

• Sometimes, it is possible that you might be having sleeping disorders that make your tinnitus worse. What I mean to say is that your sleep disorders and not the tinnitus is what preventing you from going to sleep. Cure the sleeping disorders and you will definitely see a change.

• Cultivate the habit of sleeping at regular timings. Avoid naps in the day time. Then, your body will be so tired and will not be in a state to give attention to tinnitus and will soon fall asleep.

• There are some people who worry a lot of not getting into sleep. The worry if accompanied by tinnitus makes the condition even worse. Stop thinking of your sleeping disorders.

• Avoid taking alcohol to improve your sleep timings.

• Practice yoga or other simple relaxing exercises before going to bed. This will help you to reduce the stress and brings your mind into a calm state.

• Never go to sleep if you are not feeling sleepy.

• Avoid watching horror movies or reading horror stories before going to bed.

• Tinnitus masker can be used with the suggestion of a doctor. It masks the tinnitus sound by emitting some sound that takes your mind off the feeling of tinnitus. These equipments are found to give noises of rainfall, crashing surf and more.

• Have a cup of chamomile tea before going to bed to fall asleep very easily.

If the problem of tinnitus is worse, it is recommended to consult a doctor. The doctor may recommend trying some of the above measures. To some people, they suggest drugs such as valium, xanax, klonopin which are benzodiazepine drugs. These drugs have to be used in a very small dosage or as recommended by the physician. Lastly, the best cure for tinnitus is to erase the feeling that you are a victim of tinnitus and everything will work out fine.
