Cryotherapy or cold therapy is a technique involves placing an ice pack at the region of pain is used to obtain relief from back muscle pain. This makes the muscles numb and helps to obtain relief from the soaring pain. However, this has temporary results, but this is a perfect medicine for those who are not able to fall asleep due to back muscle pain. Even doctors recommend the use of cold therapy to obtain immediate relief from back muscle pain. Cold therapy has to be practiced regularly until you obtain complete relief from pain.

It is very easy to use the process of cryotherapy. You do not have to purchase special equipment for this. Just place few ice cubes in a thick towel and wrap it. Now, place it over the painful region. For effective results, the ice pack has to be placed for at least ten minutes continuously and has to be repeated many times in a day. In hospitals, they continue cold therapy for a period of twenty minutes and thrice a day. However, there is no harm in using the therapy whenever you have severe pain.

The principle behind the working of cold therapy in curing back muscle pain is that it slows the conduction of nerve impulses, reduces the extent of inflammation and bruising. All this helps to reduce the feel of having pain.

For faster relief from back muscle pain while using cryotherapy it is essential, that you stay active. You can even practice simple exercises without straining your back heavily. It is essential to take rest for at least one or two days without involving yourself in the routine work. Avoid lifting weights until you are back to normal. If you feel hard to lie down on your back, sleep to one side and fold your knees. Now, give support to your back by placing a pillow between the knees. If you have consulted a physician, it is essential to use the medications regularly as directed by the physician.

Precautions to be taken while using cold therapy include:

• Avoid continuous application of ice pack if the skin turns red.

• Never apply ice directly over the skin. They have to be wrapped in a towel or a bag.

• If you have arthritis or any other health risks, it is recommended to use cryotherapy only under the guidance of a physician.

If the pain lasts for many days without any positive results, it is recommended to take the help of a physician. For faster relief, continue using cryotherapy. Use of medications and cold therapy fastens the healing process. However, if there are any health risks such as kidney dysfunction, it is essential to cure them to obtain relief from back muscle pain.
