By Anthony Jorgensen | Pet Related | Unrated

As a house pet, the cat will always be the kind of animal that has habits of its own. One such habit is urinating inside the house. This bad habit of your cat would result to cat urine smell which is one of the worst odors to have inside the house. This problem may be solved by following some practical methods to get rid of cat urine smell for the longest time possible.

Don’t wait for the urine to dry out. Get paper towels to dry off excess urine on the area. Then, mix one part vinegar and 3 parts water and pour into the area; let it dry. You can put baking soda to the urine spot. Then combine 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide, some water and 1 tsp of detergent and mix in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture to the urinated spot.

Get an old brush to rub off smell. This method is especially effective on carpets. If there is still some urine odor, then the same process has to be repeated. Vacuum well to finish off.

Make it a habit to clean your cat’s litter box because, it can be a source of cat urine smell. It would be better to place the litter box outside the house near the door or in a corner in the house which has good ventilation and open space.

In case your cat did it on your clothes and other laundry, you can remove the smell by including ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with your detergent and water then simply clean and wash into the washing machine.

It would be also wise to closely observe your cat because it may be sick. Make its environment conducive to make your cat comfortable, check on its foods and its behavior. If you have doubts, take your cat to the vet to have proper medical care.

It would also be practical to always have a ready spray mixture of 20% white vinegar and 80% water in a spray bottle. You can use this to spray on some corner spots, plant boxes and other areas of the house. Also, include spraying some outside premises like the garden, bushes and walkways where urine is likely to be present.

There are commercial products which are recommended to get rid of cat urine in the most convenient way without too many procedures to follow. Most of these can be bought from pet stores and groceries. All you have to do is to follow the instructions and the problem is solved. These products may come in the form of spray, as odor neutralizers in liquid form or as crystalline powder.

If you have the extra budget for it, hire a professional to get rid of severe cat urine, especially if most areas of your house are covered by carpets or floor rugs. This involves hot steaming or hot water extraction methods which may be complicated for you to do.
