Keep Your Dog Safe on the Road
By Jason Ladock | Pet Related | Unrated

Just as we use seat belts to protect our little ones, it is essential to protect the dogs when we take them for a ride. Some of them say that closing the car windows will keep the dogs safe. But, it is not right. The dog may be safe. However, the dogs cannot resist jumping, if they see something outside. This will result in an accident as you will get distracted from your driving. Hence, it is essential to keep the dog tight in its chair for the safety of all those traveling in the car. The following are some simple tips that can be followed to easily safeguard your pet.

• You can use a seatbelt with special dog straps. This way, you can keep the dog in its seat and let it enjoy, and you can also enjoy your drive without any worry.

• If you have smaller dog, then you can use dog car seats that are similar to baby seats. These seats are used just as the baby seats. These seats termed as booster seats have a clip that curbs the collar movement of the dog, so it will not be able to jump even if it desires to.

• Some people do not want to restrict their dog in a seat especially, if they are on a long drive. In such cases, a dog run will be helpful. In this method you will leave the dog in the back seat and a trolley like thing will be attached to the back seat belts. The dog will be able to move in the back of the car very freely, but it will not have space either to jump or come forward. So, you can very well keep your windows open and enjoy the fresh air.

• If your car is fully occupied then you can use a harness to get safeguard your dog. A d-shaped ring is available that enables you to attach the leash to the seatbelt.

• Apart from the safety in the car, it is essential to take effective measures to protect your dog from the bite of the snakes. You should get your dog vaccinated with rattle snake vaccine. With the vaccine the dog will develop antibodies against the rattlesnake poison.

• If it is a winter season it is essential to take a coat along with you whenever you go out. It is also essential that you take plastic feeding bowls rather than the metal bowls as your dog’s tongue may get frozen with the coldness of the bowl.

• It is not just a ride in the car, even when you take the dog out for a walk, never leave the leash. The dog may run out of some temptation which may lead to accidents.

• Never leave the dog alone in the car with all the windows closed. The dog may undergo suffocation, and if left alone with the windows open, there is a danger for it to run away. Hence, the best thing is to never leave it alone in the car.

To make your next ride a success, make sure to reward the dog for its good behavior throughout the ride.
