Ayurvedic Hair Care

The hair treatment which originates from India is known as the ayurvedic hair care. It is believed that the condition of the hair reflects the condition of the whole body as well. It simply means that if your hair is not healthy then your body is unhealthy too. That is why the ayurvedic hair care has become important, because it has its own beneficial use to keep hair healthy and the whole body as well.

The ayurvedic hair care methods starts by recommending regular cleaning of scalp and hair. The use of mild herbal shampoo is encouraged for better scalp and hair treatment.

Some water-based herbal infusions are the used of Indian herbal powders like Brahmi and Aritha. First boiled in water; after the water is cooled down and strained, it is used as shampoo to massage the scalp. It is easily rinsed out by lukewarm water. As for oil-based infusions, the oils usually used are olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil and vegetable oil.

Hair trimming is encouraged to take out split ends and breakage. It also believes that the hair should be dried out naturally rather than using blow dryers. Gentle brushing is important, because it stimulates the natural oils on the scalp and results to a shiny and healthy hair.

It is believed that the hair should be washed and conditioned more frequently during summer. This is to prevent dryness of the hair and scalp. During the cold season, it has recommended the use of oil massage to protect hair and scalp to from dryness.

Henna is believed to have a cooling effect on the scalp and is also used to remove the excess oil from the scalp and hair.

Good quality sleep is also part of this holistic approach to hair care. There is need to live a healthy life style by avoiding stress and anxiety as they believe that these two factors contribute to unhealthy hair.

A good diet is likewise recommended with a balanced intake of fruits and vegetables. Too much smoking and drinking of alcohol are considered as bad habits because these affect the hair. Avoiding too many greasy, spicy, sour, oily and acidic foods is practiced as part of eating healthy. It is believed that these foods cause illness to the body making it weak and unhealthy.

Another concept of ayurvedic hair care is that food should be eaten in a quiet and well ventilated part of the house away from noise and other activities. It believes in eating properly and enjoying the food leisurely to result to proper digestion.

It also believes that spices and aromatic herbs help improve digestion and remove toxins from within the body tissues. Some of these herbs are turmeric, black pepper and cumin.

The ayurvedic hair care simply advocates for good health by taking care of the body with a proper diet, good eating habits, and good personal hygiene. It is a good and effective way to keep the hair healthy and the whole body as well.
